Midwives are strategic health workers, at the forefront of maternal and child health services, women's reproductive health and family planning. This is in line with the midwife's philosophy as a partner of women in any condition.

Midwives also play an important role in suppressing maternal infant mortality rates (MMR) and newborn mortality rates (IMR). Maternal and newborn deaths are avoided by the availability of quality and accessible health services, in this case the availability of competent midwives in the community, easily accessible, and supported with adequate facilities.
