Abstract

The availability of enough detailed employment data information with a broad scope is sought by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for planning and evaluating development programs in the field of manpower. Therefore, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Rembang Regency has prepared a publication of the Rembang Regency Labor Profile 2018.

The scope of writing this publication uses main data sourced from the results of the National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) which was carried out in August 2018 by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in Rembang Regency. It is also used from other supporting data.

The working-age population is divided into two groups, namely the labor force and not the labor force. The classification of working age in Indonesia follows international standards, namely the age of 15 years or more. The workforce consists of those who are actively working and looking for work. While the non-workforce group consists of those who are still in school, take care of the household, retirees and others.

The number of working-age population in Rembang District as a result of Sakernas in August 2018 increased from August 2017, from 489,655 people to 494,973 people. The percentage of the workforce of the entire working age population, commonly referred to as TPAK, declined in August 2018 (67.46 percent) compared to August 2017 (70.78 percent).

67.47 percent of workers in August 2018 were prime age population or aged 25-54 years, down from August 2017 which was around 71.51 percent. More than 50 percent of workers in Rembang Regency still have low education (elementary school graduates and below), while those with diplomas and undergraduate education have the smallest percentage.

Despite a decline from 34.08 percent to 30.59 percent, the Agriculture sector still absorbed the largest number of workers, followed by the Trade and Industry sector. The smallest percentage was found in the service sector. Formal workers (laborers / employees and those seeking to be assisted by permanent workers) experienced an increase from 38.65 percent to 39.37 percent.

During the period August 2017-August 2018, the number and percentage of unemployed people in Rembang District decreased. TPT decreased from 4.51 percent to 3.19 percent. By sex, male TPT decreased from 5.42 percent to 3.57 percent, while female TPT decreased from 3.00 percent to 2.60 percent.
