Understanding Inflation according to the BPS concept is the rising prices of goods and services in general, goods and services are basic needs of society or a decline in purchasing power of a country's currency. In the calculation of inflation is often called the term CPI (Consumer Price Index), which means an index, which calculates the average change in prices over a period, of a set of goods and services consumed by the population / household within a certain time.

      Price statistics, in particular the consumer price statistics are collected in order to calculate the Consumer Price Index (CPI). CPI calculation is intended to determine changes in the price of a fixed group of goods / services that are generally consumed by the public. CPI change from time to time describe the rate of increase (inflation) or the rate of decline (deflation) of the goods / services household needs everyday.

      Indonesian Consumer Price Index calculated by modified Laspeyres formula. In calculating the average price of commodities, the measure used is the arithmetic mean, but for some commodities such as rice, cooking oil, gasoline, and so used the average geometry.

      Starting in January 2014, CPI is presented using the base year 2012 = 100 (CPI before using the base year 2007 = 100. In 2016, BPS Rembang continue to perform the calculation of inflation as in previous years. The process of calculating inflation ranging from price data collection, inspection , data processing, and release of the inflation rate in BPS Rembang under the responsibility section Distribution Statistics. Goods and services are collected grouped into seven expenditure groups namely: foodstuff; food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco, housing, water, electricity , gas and fuel; clothing; health; education, recreation and sports, as well as transport, communication and financial services. Each group consists of several sub-groups, and within each sub-group there are some commodities. Furthermore, these commodities have some quality or specification.

      In Rembang there are two markets that serve as the respondent, namely traders in Rembang Markets and Market Lasem. For the price of goods and services asked of traders in traditional markets, while commodities are not available in traditional markets as asked in the modern market (store / supermarket), and the outlet. The data collection process the price of each commodity is obtained through interviews directly to retailers.

      Frequency of data collection vary from commodity prices and other commodities., Depending on the characteristics of each commodity price fluctuations which, for Rembang is as follows:

  • Rice price data collection and several commodities, including basic necessities were collected every week on Monday and Tuesday (include rice, flour, chicken, beef, fish, milk, eggs, tofu, tempeh, onion, garlic, red pepper, cayenne pepper, cooking oil, sugar, cement, household fuel, and gold jewelery) using a questionnaire HK 1.1

  • For some food commodities, price data are collected every two weeks, on Wednesday and Thursday in the first and third weeks. (including instant noodles, fresh fish, fish preserves, vegetables, soaps, and gasoline) By using a questionnaire HK 1.2

  • Commodities other food ingredients, processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco, price data are collected monthly on Tuesday ahead of the mid-month for three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), which include rice flour, mutton, gizzard chicken liver, food baby, food, fruit, spices, cigarettes and tobacco by using a questionnaire HK 2.1

  • Price data for durable goods are collected monthly on day 5 to day 15 (includes household items, clothing, medication, physical care services, and cosmetics) using questionnaires HK 2.2

  • Data prices of goods and services are collected monthly on day 1 to day 10 (includes the cost of shelter, fuel, lighting and water, household supplies, education services, courses / training, supplies / equipment, education, recreation, sports, transport, communications and dispatch, vehicle and supporting transport, financial services) using questionnaires HK 3.


      Each activity in the data collection must always there kendala.Kendala often faced attendant price survey is the respondent who sometimes feel bored, but field workers always have a way to get them to answer the questions, for example by getting a joke and also bought the respondents goods officer need for everyday purposes.
