KSA Survey (May) in the Middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic

May 31, 2020 | BPS Activities

One of BPS's activities related to food security is the Area Sample Framework (KSA) survey. The Sample Area Framework Survey (KSA) is a survey for the acquisition of data and information on agricultural food crops which is carried out every 25-30 every month. The purpose of KSA is to estimate the rice harvest area more accurately by collecting photos of rice plants in various planting phases, namely from the land tillage to post-harvest processing (one planting season).

This method is the result of collaboration between BPS and other institutions such as the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR), and the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN).

Armed with an Android mobile phone that has the KSA application installed, the officer can observe the condition of the land whether it is in the land preparation phase, vegetative phase, generative phase, harvest phase, puso land, non rice paddy land, or non paddy land as well as photographing the results of rice growth in the location of the coordinates, which are ultimately obtained with objective, accurate, fast and updated agricultural data. After being examined via satellite, officers will come to each point to take photos and send plant growth through applications made by BPS and BPPT. Arrangements are also made so that officers must take photos according to the location of the assignment sample

KSA in the Middle of Pandemic
Despite facing the emergency situation of the Covid-19 pandemic that has entered its third month, the stretching of officers in carrying out this survey has not decreased. KSA officers continue to fight on the ground. The clerk still went to the selected fields, fields / fields. Worry and fear certainly exist. Current obstacles to the field, such as access roads to / into the village, were closed due to the village's concern about migrants from outside the village during a pandemic like this. Especially now that the nation is facing a corona virus outbreak.

The KSA schedule during the Covid-19 pademic period was extended to the 6th of the following month. Alhamdulillah, there is some time to be able to complete this KSA task. Officers who will go to the field also still adhere to the health protocol while maintaining a safe distance, Physical Distancing, using masks, face shields, and hand sanitizers. Use long sleeves, shoes, trousers and gloves for self-protection.

Keep up the spirits of your friends, equip yourself with PPE when you go to the field. Fight for this country. Rest assured that your steps also determine food fulfillment through this KSA survey. May Allah SWT always give us health, safety and ease in carrying out this work. (JQ)
