KSA Survey June 2020

KSA Survey June 2020

June 26, 2020 | BPS Activities

Month after month, it doesn't feel like KSA is starting (again) running. Precisely on the 3rd Sunday or 7 (seven) last day of each month KSA officers start struggling back to the rice fields, fields and still remain friendly with the heat, rain, mud, shrubs and even reptiles.

KSA Survey is an innovation in measuring harvest area in the context of improving crop production data involving BPS, Ministry of Agriculture, Geospatial Information Agency, BPPT, National Land Agency, and National Aeronautics and Space Agency.

The KSA method is expected to be able to improve the harvest area data collection method based on the results of the eyes of the data collection officer (eye estimate) so that it can answer the provision of data and information that is accurate and timely to support the planning of the National Food Security Program.

In this activity, each enumerator worked on 4-5 segments and each segment contained 9 sub-segments. The enumerator will observe the rice growth phase of each sub-segment. Rice growth phase consists of initial vegetative, final vegetative, generative, harvesting, land preparation, puso, paddy fields planted instead of rice, and not paddy.

The officer is equipped with an andorid-based application, which is the KSA application to determine the growth phase and will take pictures with the application and upload it directly on the KSA server, so that the determination of the growth phase of rice plants by the officer is also proven by visual images. So the officer must really come to the location of the observation.
With the KSA method it is expected that harvested area data will be more accurate and timely. Through the KSA observation phase information can also be known harvest estimates for the next few months. Of course this is very useful for the government in determining national food program policies.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit more than 4 months, BPS continues to carry out KSA field activities by being given an extension of the implementation schedule, which was originally deadline at the end of every month, and now (during the pandemic) deadline every 6th at the beginning of the following month. Officers to the field still pay attention to health protocols. Officers have been equipped with the use of masks, face shields, and ready hand sanitizers. Use long sleeves, shoes, trousers and shirts for self protection.

This KSA activity involved BPS partner officers as field enumerators who were tasked with photographing observation points and providing information on plant phases when photographing and BPS organic as enumerators and also as field supervisors. Not to be left behind, Head of BPS in Rembang Regency, Henri Wagiyanto, S.Pt, M.Ec.Dev, MA also participated in supervising the field of KSA activities in Mlatirejo Village, Bulu District together with KSK Bulu, M. Dwi Priyanto, SE. He also witnessed firsthand the process of photographing observation points of KSA rice activities.
The obstacle faced is because the Rembang Regency is now declared as an area with the Covid-19 Red Zone, there are some areas (access to the village) that are difficult to pass. The small alleys were closed and given a 'cross bar' entry ban. This is done by residents to anticipate the prevention of the corona virus. Officers were forced to turn around to get out of the village to find a way through to the KSA location. There are also some officers who can enter the KSA location by having to report to the local RT first.
Keep up with your friends. Fight for this country. Rest assured that through this KSA survey, your steps also determine the fulfillment of food. May Allah SWT always provide protection, health, safety and convenience in carrying out the duties of this country. And hopefully the COVID-19 pandemic will soon pass. (JQ)
